Day 1: Kampala, the equator and on to Ishasha, Queen Elizabeth NP

After an early start we will head west to the equator for coffee and onto Mbarara for lunch. We’ll then head on through the wetlands and tea plantations of western Uganda and down on to the plains of the Queen Elizabeth conservation area, arriving at our lodge in the late afternoon. We may have time for an evening game drive, in search of hyena, leopard elephant and of course, those lions up a tree, or you may just feel like watching the sunset from the tranquility of your lodge bar.

Day 2: Big Game Drive and Journey up to the Misty Forests of Bwindi

After an early start we’ll go for a game drive in the Ishasha sector of the park. While enjoying the wilderness, we’ll be on the lookout for the famed tree climbing lions and healthy population of hyena as well as elephant, topi, hippos and many antelopes. After lunch at the lodge we’ll take the winding road travelling through the lakes, forests and mountains of western Uganda. We reach our destination overlooking the Ruhija sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the late afternoon.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking

Today’s the day! After a briefing from your ranger you head on foot to find your gorilla group. The walk can be anything from 30 mins to 4 hours but is usually in the 1-2 hour range. The going can be tough, the terrain steep, vegetation lush and the weather wet but when you finally come across the magnificent beasts it will all be worthwhile! You will spend one hour with them, observing their day to day activities at close quarters, following them through the forest. The time will fly but the memories will stay with you forever.

Please note:
If you are sick you will not be able to visit. Gorillas are so closely related to us that they can catch all of our diseases but may not be so well equipped in recovering from them. Their safety is paramount.
A reasonable level of fitness is required for this trek.
Good walking shoes, waterproof jacket and long trousers are essential. You are welcome to take photographs but you must use a camera where you can turn the flash off.

Day 4: Lake Bunyonyi Back to Kampala/Entebbe

An early start and breakfast overlooking this beautiful lake before the long drive back to Kampala or Entebbe.
Available as a group or private safari.
Price pp from $1,095
